Bad character is not formed over night, and conversely neither is good character. Character is an on going formation of little choices over an extended period of time. As long as time extends and choices are made our character will continue to form, or deform. That is why we must learn from Adam and Eve. Not only is it important what we eat, but also from where it came.
Jesus, when tempted of Satan to create nourishment for himself, responded—“man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes out from the mouth of God.” (Matt. 4:4). The hand that feeds me is the hand that leads me.
Wherever you are at this moment in your life, stop and ask yourself, in what direction am I being led? The beauty of God is that He is always ready to feed you and change your direction. Perhaps you are not living a life in complete opposition to God, but maybe in some small area you know you aren’t eating from His hand.
Take the time to search your heart and find that area where you are trying to manage life without God’s help. Where are you overextending yourself and shortchanging God? Identify that area and seek God’s hand to feed whatever desire you are trying to fill without Him. Allow God to feed you and lead you into a better person.
